While Robert Pattinson may be occupied with someone new, Kristen Stewart is busy with her career! The Twilight star isn't letting the breakup blues keep her from some tantalizing movie roles, it turns out. While she has kept a low profile in 2013 so far, Deadline has the skinny on a couple of post-Bella Swan projects for K. Stew.
The first film, Camp X-Ray, is a political drama where Kirsten will star as a young woman who escapes her "suffocating" small town (sound familiar?) by joining the military (OK, not familiar anymore) and is sent to Guantanamo Bay, where she builds an unlikely friendship with one of Gitmo's prisoners. The project is directed by Peter Sattler, who has previously worked on Star Trek, Walk the Line, and more.
The next one's a little higher-profile! Sils Maria (or Since Maria in English) will star Kristen alongside Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) and Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass, 30 Rock). The film is written and directed by Olivier Assayas (Paris, je t'aime, Summer Hours), and is definitely a solid arthouse project to have on her resume.
Maria is about an older actress (Juliette) obsessed with a much younger one (Chloe) who is reprising a role that made the elder actress famous. Kristen plays the elder actress's assistant. It shoots this summer in Europe, but IFC nabbed the distribution rights even before Cannes!
Kristen will be shooting Since Maria first, followed by Camp X-Ray.
It looks like Kristen is trying to launch a super-serious film career! Are you happy for her, or not a fan?
