Something that could have been a terrible story has wound up with a happy ending.

The daughter of former New York Yankees manager Joe Torre managed to catch a baby who fell from a second-story awning in Brooklyn earlier this week, according to the New York Daily News.

Cristina Torre, 44, was having coffee at a cupcake shop when she and others noticed a one-year-old boy clinging to the awning of a frozen yogurt shop next door.

"I didn't really know what was going to happen," Cristina says. "You just move into action  you don't really think about it."

"I'm talking to him saying, 'Don't come down, stay there,'" she adds. "He helped himself with his arms. He was dangling. I knew he would be flipping very soon."

Cristina says the boy "literally landed in my arms," and she credits her dad for giving her "good hand-eye coordination."

Police say that the boy somehow climbed onto the fire escape and is now in stable condition. The child's parents were arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.

Joe Torre has issued a statement, and he sounds like quite the proud papa.

Joe says he's "very proud of my daughter Cristina's actions today during an incident in Brooklyn involving a small child."

Thank goodness no one was hurt!
