A female Cirque Du Soleil performer died after falling 50 feet during a performance in Las Vegas Saturday night — the first incident of death in the acrobatic company's 30-year history.
The incident occurred at the company's show Ka at MGM Grand — on the same evening that Cirque celebrated the opening on its eighth Vegas show, Michael Jackson ONE.
The Clark County Coroner's Office has not positively identified the performer. "We don't have family members notified yet," a representative for the coroner's office told People.
Cirque officials have yet to make a formal announcement, but according to audience members, the performer was suspended by a wire during the latter part of the show when she simply fell. One audience member tweeted about the incident, saying the "wire snapped" and the performer "fell fast & awkwardly at least 50 feet."
The show was canceled after this harrowing and unfortunate incident.
