The George Clooney/Stacy Keibler breakup had been rumored and rumor-corrected so many times over the past two years, the only shock now is knowing we won't have to read more threats of their split. But we have seen some rumors about how and why they split.
In the official People story, a source said Stacy did the dumping for family reasons. "She wants to have children and a family someday," the source says. "She knows where George stands on that."
However, over at TMZ, they posted this cryptic note at the end of their own new split details story: "There are reports that Stacy was pushing GC for kids and that's why the relationship fizzled -- but we're told that couldn't be further from the truth."
A source close to the pair told TMZ the couple had been growing apart for the past three months, with George working on a movie in Europe and Dancing With the Stars Season 2 finalist Stacy working on her new TV show in L.A. Stacy reportedly decided she couldn't do the long distance thing for another five months.
George, 52, and Stacy, 33, supposedly talked it out like adults — over the phone, yep a phone split — and both agreed to just go their separate ways. The TMZ source said George handled the news well. "He was very respectful, adult about the situation ... he reminded Stacy that they were friends before they dated and wants to be friends after."
Meanwhile, over at US Weekly, a source said of the couple, "They hadn't had sex in months. He's been in Europe, and she's in L.A., and they haven't seen each other in a long time. Some girls would be okay with that and just be happy dating George, but not her." Another source said it was a mutual decision; "no one got dumped." Still another insider told Us, "She knew he wasn't looking to get married. But there was always that fantasy that he would commit. Sadly, it just ran its course."
Even casual fans know Clooney has no interest in getting married again or having kids, and Stacy has always seemed too savvy to push him on that angle. It seems like a short-term thing to date him, unless you are absolutely sure you don't want marriage, kids or, apparently, spending tons of time together. If Stacy does want to find The One and start a family, good luck to her! And good luck to the next lady to date Clooney.
