Good news for all you Amber-Ryan shippers! Matt Lauria has signed on the dotted line to return to Parenthood for Season 5.
TVLine reports that Matt will appear in roughly half of the NBC family drama's 22-episode Season 5 — which premieres Thursday, September 26, at 10 pm ET — meaning there's more happiness or heartbreak in store between Matt's character, Ryan, and Amber (Mae Whitman).
Incidentally, Matt is one of two Friday Night Lights alumni to shack up with daughters in the Braverman family, the other being Michael B. Jordan. (We still want Haddie to transfer to a Berkeley-area college and reunite with Alex!)
Talking to Wetpaint Entertainment at the ATX Television Festival on June 5, Mae said she wasn't ready to bid the character of Ryan goodbye.
"I would hope that we get to see where their journey goes," she enthused.
"Can't stand [Mae]," Ryan joked as he reached Wetpaint on the red carpet before rehashing Season 4 and hyping Season 5.
"I just felt like the writers gave us so much to deal with, and so many twists and turns, and so many layers to Ryan's character and taking Amber to new depths, trying to figure out more complicated adult situations … The sky's the limit for those writers. I sorta just trust the story in their hands."
