Those reports were true! Outspoken actress and author Jenny McCarthy has joined daytime talk show The View.
Her future co-host Barbara Walters announced the happy news on the show's July 15 episode, saying, "We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on The View starting in September. Jenny brings us intelligence, as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point of view. Jenny will be a great addition to the show as we usher in an exciting new chapter for The View."
That new chapter begins with the show's 17th season premiere on Monday, September 9, at 11 a.m. ET — which is fitting, since Jenny has appeared on the show 17 times, including eight times as a guest host.
The former Playboy Playmate and Dirty Love actress has turned to writing and activism recently, penning multiple memoirs and raising awareness of issues around the environment and around autism treatment. (Her son Evan has autism.) She also dated Jim Carrey for five years before they called it quits in 2010.
Her own late-night talk show, The Jenny McCarthy Show, debuted in February on VH1, and Jenny will split her time between the two hosting duties.
"I'm beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table," she said. "I'd like to thank ABC for this great opportunity. I'd also like to give a big thank you to VH1 for their support and for allowing me to fulfill this lifelong dream. I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off."
Jenny is replacing Joy Behar, who's leaving in August. Elisabeth Hasselbeck also left just last week. Sherri Shepherd and Whoopi Goldberg will likely return for Season 17, which could be the last round for Barbara Walters, who has previously announced that she'll retire in 2014.
Looks like we'll get a whole new View come September.
