Very sad news as Law & Order star Dennis Farina has died at age 69.
Dennis passed away on July 22 in Scottsdale, AZ, from a blood clot in his lungs, according to TV Line.
Dennis was born in Chicago and rose to fame in a variety of memorable film roles, including Midnight Run and Get Shorty.
He played Detective Joe Fontana on Law & Order from 2004-2006. This was especially appropriate given that he started out as a real-life police officer before getting into acting. He served on the Chicago police force from 1967 to 1985.
Dennis's death is particularly surprising given that his career hadn't shown any signs of slowing down. He starred on the 2012 Showtime horse-racing series Luck and played a recurring role as Nick's dad on New Girl.
Jake Johnson, who played Dennis's TV son Nick on New Girl, expressed his grief via Twitter:
Dennis was married to Patricia Farina from 1970 until their divorce in 1980. The couple has three sons — Dennis Jr, Michael, and Joseph — and six grandchildren.
Our thoughts are with Dennis's family and loved ones during this very difficult time.
