On this happy day, can we have a brief moment of silence for Princess Diana? If only she could be here to welcome her first grandchild.
Diana died on August 31, 1997, and on July 22, 2013, her grandson, Prince We-Don't-Know-Yet, was born. Prince William's father, Prince Charles, issued a statement (via People) on behalf of himself and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
"Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy. ... Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.”
Catherine — whom we know best as Kate Middleton, 31 — had a natural delivery, giving birth at 4:24 p.m., with the boy weighing in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces.
The little man is third in line for the British throne, after his father and grandfather. Of course, his great-grandma is currently occupying the throne, and we hope she stays there for a while.
Congrats to all!
