Lady Gaga is finally back in the spotlight after recuperating from a horrifying-sounding hip injury. Now, thanks to an interview with Women's Wear Daily, we know just how horrifying: really, genuinely cringe-worthy. She almost needed her whole hip replaced!
“My injury was actually a lot worse than just a labral tear,” Gaga tells WWD. “I had broken my hip. Nobody knew, and I haven’t even told the fans yet. But when we got all the MRIs finished before I went to surgery there were giant craters, a hole in my hip the size of a quarter, and the cartilage was just hanging out the other side of my hip. I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage. The surgeon told me that if I had done another show I might have needed a full hip replacement. I would have been out at least a year, maybe longer.”
Cartilage hanging out?! Yikes!
This had apparently been Gaga's first time going without performing for more than two weeks since she was 14 years old, so her absence was maybe as much of a shock to her as it was to us.
Fortunately, she says, the break gave her plenty of time to stand back and look at her work, guaranteeing more hours reviewing and revising her upcoming album, ARTPOP.
Her first single off the new album, "Applause," is out August 19, and while Gaga is staying quiet on specific details, she assures WWD that "it is very fun [...] and that it's full of happiness."
"What I’m saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me. Give me that thing that I love. Put your hands up, make them touch," she adds.
Are you excited for her new album?!
