Modern Family star Ariel Winter is getting used to an updated family of her own, thanks to a judge's recent ruling.
The 15-year-old actress, who stars as Alex Dunphy on the ABC hit, will not be returning to live with her mother, Chrisoula Workman, in the near future, People reports.
Ariel was removed from her mother's custody last year after the star's sister, Shanelle Gray, alleged that the girls' mother was abusing Ariel physically and emotionally.
While Chrisoula has denied Shanelle's claims that she "slapped, hit, pushed" and starved Ariel, Judge Michael Levenas denied Chrisoula's motion to regain custody of her teenage daughter, granting Arielle's sister guardianship of her until October 16.
The judge said that it was not evident that Chrisoula had been doing sufficient work to mend her relationship with Ariel, who was granted a restraining order against her mother in 2012.
Chrisoula has claimed that Ariel's allegations against her are not based in fact, but rather her form of protest after Chrisoula tried to keep her daughter from dating an older man.
"I'm the one being abused here," Chrisoula told the Associated Press. "I'm doing this for all stage mothers. This could happen to any of them."
