Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just keeps getting cooler!

The Joss Whedon series — based on the Marvel Comics organization (full title Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) we saw in The Avengers — will premiere September 24 on ABC.

Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson — seen in The Avengers — is headlining the series. Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) will also return for the pilot. Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, and Elizabeth Henstridge have been cast as other agents.

According to The Mary Sue, two new characters have been added, although their roles are still shrouded in mystery. Ghost Whisperer alum David Conrad will play a recurring character described as a "brilliant and quirky scientist."

And Ron Glass (Shepherd Book) of Joss Whedon's Firefly and Serenity is also joining the cast. No details were shared on his role, but here’s a photo of his character. He looks like he might also be a scientist, as opposed to a field agent.

Are you excited to see S.H.I.E.L.D. in action?
