MasterChef judge Graham Elliot's career may be bigger than ever, but the rest of him is getting smaller by the minute.
The Chicago-based chef is dropping pounds like it's his job, thanks to weight loss surgery earlier this month. Graham, who underwent a sleeve gastrectomy on July 15, has already dropped an impressive 56 pounds from his 6'1" frame.
"I started [weighing] 396 and I'm now at 340. That's even better than expected," he told PEOPLE.
"I feel amazing. I have a lot more energy," he noted. "I'm able to play tag with my 6-year-old son, [Mylo]. He said, 'You're way faster than you were.' He's so excited."
While making the decision to go under the knife was no easy task, "The hardest part is relearning how to eat," said Graham.
"And temptation is still hard for me. If friends are eating fast food or baking fresh chocolate chip cookies, it's difficult not to grab even a tiny piece. Mentally, I've got to start thinking of that stuff as the enemy."
As for how it's changed his approach to cooking, Graham revealed he's simply looking at food through a new lens. "Before I might have played up the whole fat guy thing. 'How much butter and cheese can I add to stuff?' Now I'm starting to think healthier. I look at it more philosophically. 'How do I take care of people?'"
