Iron that suit and tie because Justin “Dress to Impress” Timberlake just joined the already highly talented list of performers for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. And not only that — JT will get a major award during the event!
Beyond the six Moonmen Justin is already up for — that ties him with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis for the most nods of the night — the former Mouseketeer will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. It’s fitting seeing as JT moonwalks almost as well as the King of Pop did in his heyday.
In all actuality, though, the Video Vanguard Award recognizes an artist with a remarkable string of music videos under his or her respective fedora. And we know Justin has those in spades starting way back with the puppet string action in “Bye Bye Bye.”
Upon receiving the award, Justin joins the like of entertainment royalty including R.E.M., the Beastie Boys, Madonna, and, obviously, MJ. Way to go, JT!
During what we’re sure will be Justin’s inspiring acceptance speech, there might be one sour face in the audience: Kanye West. The two don’t have an out-and-out feud but have swapped lyrical shots at one another in the past. Better watch out, JT. Kanye’s got a history of jumping up on the VMA stage when things don’t go his way.
Beside Justin’s performance and Kanye’s history-making seventh VMA set, the show will feature performances by the likes of Miley Cyrus and Robert Thicke not to mention Katy Perry debuting her single “Roar.” Consider us completely booked for the night of Sunday, August 25.
