Tina Fey got her jokes stolen and it’s up to us to catch the crook... or watch a video showing the (alleged) thief and wax poetic on why bad things happen to funny people.
While stopping by Late Show With David Letterman this week, Tina shared the surveillance video showing the primary suspect — a man, aka “Blue Shirt Guy,” who Tina thinks may work for the company that moved her into a new Manhattan office the same day as the theft.
The potential perp’s face is blurred out — a step back in trying to catch the guy but one we’re sure CBS’ lawyers insisted upon — but we can clearly see him walking away with Tina’s laptop “hidden” in a manilla envelope.
Although we’re saddened by the loss of all the great jokes Tina likely had cooking on her computer, her commentary on the video is priceless.
“He’s going in. Remember, no one else works there,” Tina says as the footage rolls. “Looking around. Maybe he’s looking for a friend. Maybe it’s a college buddy of mine. Nope. Oh wait. What’s that? Don’t even fold the paper over. You see the computer sticking out!”
Although Tina went to the police, she understands that “New York’s a big city. And you’re like, ‘Some guy stole my jokes.’ And they’re like, ‘Oh, we’ll get right on it.’”
Do the NYPD not understand the comedic gold that’s at stake?! One silver lining: Maybe Tina can work this unfortunate incident into one of her upcoming projects.
