It's not complicated — someone must've been watching Beck Bennett in those AT&T ads where he sits down with a bunch of kids and has his mind blown by infinity *times* infinity.
Now Deadline says Beck is one of four top candidates Saturday Night Live is considering for the fall season. The other three are John Milhiser, Noël Wells and Kyle Mooney. All four have reportedly been performing at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
SNL desperately needs new blood. They just lost Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig, and Andy Samberg. Plus, Seth Meyers is leaving in late fall.
Enter, possibly, Beck — who had his own "Meet That Guy in Those Adorable AT&T Commercials” profile from The Daily Beast. According to the story, Beck is a member of the comedy troupe Good Neighbor, which he formed with three friends while an acting student at the University of Southern California. One of the friends is fellow candidate Kyle Mooney. So they could bring their rapport to SNL.
Check out mini photos of the four candidates here. They are pretty darn white, like most of the SNL cast, and they are already re-launching the discussion on how SNL has had so few women of color. It does make poking fun of Beyonce a bit more difficult...
