After 14 years of marriage and 17 years together, actress and actor duo Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel announced that they are separating.
Vincent may be most recognizable to American audiences for his role as the creepy director in the 2010 Oscar-winning film Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman as a crazed ballerina. Monica has also previously graced US screens, starring in The Passion of the Christ and two Matrix sequels.
A rep for the Italian actress says the split is “by mutual agreement.” The pair have two daughters together: 3-year-old Léonie and 8-year-old Deva. They originally met while filming French film L'appartement in 1996; they married three years later. Currently Bellucci is filming in Serbia while Vincent is reportedly in his home country of France.
Sadly, there may have long been clouds on the horizon for the couple. Earlier this year Monica sat down with Grazia magazine and said of her marriage, “We never know how long it will last. Today, it works, but in a year...I don’t know.”
Vincent, meanwhile, told British magazine Closer, “the key to our relationship after 18 years together” was that “we don’t seek other people’s approval.” He added, “My wife and me are very different animals.”
