Oh man, the VMAs are over for another year, but we can’t stop talking about *N SYNC’s mini-reunion and Justin Timberlake’s everything. The “Suit & Tie” singer popped and thrusted his way all over Brooklyn’s Barclays Arena on the August 25 show, and though our eyes were following his every move, we were mostly just anticipating the worst-kept secret ever: The return of the ultimate boy band.

Chatter about an *N SYNC reunion at the MTV awards show was circulating long before Gaga opened the show, and honestly, we expected more than what we got. Part way through Justin’s 15 minute-long medley of solo hits, his old bandmates rose from the floor to help him sing “Girlfriend,” the final single of their third studio album, Celebrity. They then transitioned into a little bit of “Bye, Bye, Bye” before descending back from whence they came. (If you said "obscurity," shame on you.)

But apparently we weren’t the only ones whose fangirling went from 60 to WTF in 2:03 flat (the length of their appearance). A source who claims to be close to the actio*N says that JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Lance Bass weren’t quite as thrilled by the performance as JT might’ve been. Mostly, the source says, the boys thought exactly what we did: Justin should’ve spent / a little more time / on them.

The source says, "They were pushing for more. While he was thrilled they could come for him, he didn't want the reunion to be the whole thing. They originally were told that it was going to be more of their old hits, not just Bye Bye Bye — but then Justin reworked it."

And although Justin gave them a shout out when accepting an award, saying that he was “going to share [it] with them” since he owed his initial success to the band, we were all a little bummed. However, the source continues, there’s no bad blood about it. *Ndeed, they spent the remainder of the night together, hitting up Jay-Z’s after party, with no strings attached.
