It’s not often that actresses have their own fairytale romances that read like a romantic comedy, but Enlisted star Angelique Cabral certainly does. The upcoming FOX starlet (who you may recognize from Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23 or Friends With Benefits) married longtime boyfriend Jason Osborn last month with an eight-year love story under her belt, all starting with a late night slice of pizza in New York City.
In fact, it was her friend Pierra’s run-in with her ex Jason Wright over pizza that started things off. As Angelique explains, after Pierra and “JW” rekindled their romance, she was pitched the idea of dating his roommate.
“Are you single? Are you by any chance single because I have a roommate named Jason and you would just love him,” the actress repeated from memory (in a fake Southern Drawl). “He cooks, he cleans, he’s so sweet. Let’s go on a double date!”
Turns out the two Jasons (pictured left) were both models in New York who co-ran a granola business — FEED, which has since been shut down and sold to Lauren Bush, who uses the brand’s logo for her Target charity line — and since that double date, she and her Jason (“the Nordic blonde gorgeous model,” much like True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgard) have been inseparable.
Flash-forward six and a half years later. They’re living together in Los Angeles and it’s just before Christmas 2011. Unbeknownst to Angelique, he’s about to propose — and she was just lured away for wine with her best friend, Rosemary, and is now racing through their apartment in yoga clothes, trying to get ready for a birthday party that’s in a half hour and packing for a trip to Philadelphia the next morning.
Below, she details the rest of their night — spoiler alert: It’s a heartwarming, tearjerker engagement story — exclusively to Wetpaint Entertainment:
“I basically came home at 7:30, knowing that we had to be at the party at 8, and I walked in and was like, ‘Jase, we gotta go. We’re super late, we gotta go!’ And he was like, ‘Come to our bedroom, I need to ask you a question.’ I was super testy and I’d had like two glasses of wine and was like, ‘Babe, no, we gotta go. We have to pack. We’re going to be late for the party.’ And I walk into our bedroom and it’s candles everywhere, hundreds of rose petals on our bed and on the floor, and like a dozen long-stemmed roses and champagne. My mind went to, I’m not kidding you, ‘We do not have sexytime right now. There’s no time, we’re so late, I’m in my yoga s—t and I’ve gotta get changed and go to the party.’ He says, ‘Ang, I need to ask you a question,’ and he pulls me into this chair and I’m like “Oh... oh!’ and then I was like, ‘Is this happening? Oh my god. Wait, is this it? Is this happening?’ And I immediately started bawling when I looked at how beautiful the room was. He’s just very detail-oriented and he got down on his knee and basically went through this whole thing about how we were best friends, how we’ve gone through so much together over the past seven years up and down, but that he, from the very beginning, knew he wanted to spend his life with me, and I was like, ‘Yes!’ I literally just kept saying, ‘yes, yes, yes,’ and I didn’t even let him finish.”
But wait, there’s more! Her stunning, custom-designed Cartier ring has a story, too — she was actually afraid to look at it when he proposed. “I was scared to look at the ring because we had never looked at rings. We had never talked about it, about what I wanted, and we never went shopping, nothing. I didn’t even really want to look at it, and when I did, I was like, ‘Oh. My. God,’” she revealed. “It was stunning and I said yes, obviously, and we cried. And then we took a picture of ourselves instantly and put it on Facebook.” (Want proof? Check out the tear-filled selfie in all its glory above!) Angelique explained that the ring had been inscribed incorrectly, so his plan to ask her two weeks prior was shifted to the spur-of-the-moment proposal, calling in her BFF Rosemary to whisk her away for wine while he set up.
After she accepted, they rushed over to the “birthday party,” only for Angelique to discover that it was instead an engagement party with all of their best friends. As she recalls, they “drank four bottles of champagne, didn’t eat a thing, got on the plane at 6 a.m. and were so hungover that we almost puked.” However, the celebrations were worth it, and they had the “best Christmas ever.” From there, the wedding planning began, they wed a year and a half later — bringing their romcom-esque courtship full-circle by choosing their wedding song from a tune in The Five-Year Engagement, Audra Mae’s cover of “Crazy, Crazy Love” — and the rest, as they say, is history.
