Last night CNN host Piers Morgan announced that Billy Ray Cyrus would not be appearing as scheduled despite his appearing in the East Coast’s opening roll video. Why the change of heart? Piers joked that maybe the father of Miley Cyrus didn’t know what to say about his daughter’s controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance.
“I’m not sure he’s quite worked out what his explanation is yet so we’ve decided to postpone it,” Piers said. “We are going to get the first interview. I know he’s watching tonight, so, Billy Ray, good evening — and when you’re ready, we will talk about this.”
It’s not as if Billy Ray’s not saying anything about his daughter’s twerking ways, telling Entertainment Tonight, “She’s still my little girl and I’m still her dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out. I love her unconditionally and that will never change.”
It’s a nice sentiment seeing as Miley’s performance is causing her dad a bit of grief over at the Parents Television Council (PTC). You see, Billy Ray sits on the advisory board of the PTC, which issued a press release that, among other harsh words, said “How is this image of former child star Miley Cyrus appropriate for 14-year-olds?” Awkward much?
We just hope seeing his little girl grind up against a 36-year-old man on national television didn’t make Billy Ray’s heart all achy breaky.
