UPDATE 8/30/2013, 4:14 pm PST: Amanda Bynes may remain in a mental health facility for up to a year, TMZ reports. A judge has approved the earlier request of Amanda’s doctors, the site adds, with control of the hold transferred from the doctors to Amanda’s mother. Despite the ruling, however, the former Nickelodeon star will likely not remain in the hospital for the full year. “We’re told the plan is to keep her in a facility for 60 days to stabilize her and then transfer Amanda to her mom’s home,” says TMZ. We hope Amanda gets the help she needs!

Original story: Amanda Bynes seems to be on the mend, thanks in part to a potentially life-saving psychiatric hold following a series of frightening and criminal episodes, but it seems her ordeal is far from over.

Radar Online reports that the former Nickelodeon star’s doctors are hoping to have her hospitalized long-term so that they can accurately diagnose and treat her illness.

A member of Amanda’s inner circle revealed that doctors have “been observing Amanda, and there has been some improvement... however, her diagnosis is complex, and the appropriate drug cocktail to treat her hasn’t been achieved yet.”

While Amanda’s angry and violent outbursts, in addition to her paranoid behavior, have led many to believe she’s suffering from schizophrenia, she has yet to be diagnosed with the disease. Despite the lack of a concrete diagnosis, “she is being treated for it,” according to a friend. “There is such a negative stigma with schizophrenia," added the pal. "Given time and the correct treatment and medicine, Amanda could and should absolutely be able to live with it and be a productive member of society. In fact, she wouldn’t likely suffer from symptoms of it if she stays on her medication.”

Good luck, Amanda, and, regardless of what happens, do try to leave Drake out of it.
