We now know that Fifty Shades of Grey leading man Christian Grey will be played by TV star Charlie Hunnam. But just who is this fortunate — not to mention easy-on-the-eyes — actor?
Charlie is a 33-year-old British actor who is best known for playing Jax on the FX series Sons of Anarchy. He also starred in this summer's sci-fi action film Pacific Rim — but we're guessing the Fifty Shades film will have much fewer robots in it.
However, he's had a long career that goes way beyond his recent credits. For example, Charlie played Nathan on the first two seasons of Showtime's Queer as Folk. And he even has experience with comedy, having played Lloyd on the Judd Apatow-produced Fox sitcom Undeclared from 2001-2003.
As for his personal life, the actor met actress Katharine Towne when they both auditioned for Dawson's Creek (!) in 1999, and the two eloped after only four weeks of dating. Sadly, they split up in 2002, and he is now with jewelry designer Morgana McNelis, whom he's dated since 2007. In fact, the two own a ranch just outside of L.A.
And he's not just a pretty face, as he also sold a screenplay in 2009 called Vlad to Summit Entertainment. The film is currently in development, with Brad Pitt's Plan B company involved as co-producers.
So in other words, Charlie is clearly not an overnight success. And he's sure to become an A-lister with Fifty Shades of Grey, so — to paraphrase the Dawson's Creek theme song — he won't have to wait for his life to be over to experience phenomenal success.
