Katie Couric is already prepping for the second season of her talk show Katie, but it looks like she’s got an even more exciting event to look forward to — a walk down the aisle!
The TV host, 56, and her boyfriend of almost two years, banker John Molner, 50, became engaged over the holiday weekend. John, who works as head of mergers and acquisitions at Brown Brothers Harriman, asked Katie to marry him with a beautiful diamond ring as the sun set on the beach in East Hampton, N.Y.
Prior to her relationship with John, with whom she went public in spring 2012, Katie was married to Jay Monahan for nine years until his death from colon cancer in 1998. The couple had two children together — Ellie, 21, and Carrie, 17.
Following her husband’s death, Katie was rumored to be dating, but it was only in the late 2000s that her personal life began making headlines when she started dating Brooks Perlin, a financial executive 17 years her junior. The couple ended their relationship in late 2011.
As for her thoughts on remarrying prior to meeting John, Katie had previously kept the idea as as nice thought, rather than a goal. “I'm sort of a traditional person and I always thought I would remarry after my husband died because I had been happily married and I really enjoyed having at partner,” she told The Huffington Post. “I’m not sure. But I would totally be open to it… I really like the idea of being in a committed relationship.”
Congratulations to the happy couple!
