George Washington. Rosa Parks. Miley Cyrus?

If you as most people, that’s a seemingly random assortment of figures. If you ask Miley Cyrus, it’s a list of people who made history.

With the dust of her lizard-tongued VMA performance settled, Miley is finally speaking up about the twerks heard around the world and explaining just how much of the evening’s weird festivities she and Beetlejuice Robin Thicke had actually planned.

In a new interview with MTV, Miley reveals that she and Robin were attempting to “make history” with their bizarre performance, although not everything in her act was totally calculated.

“I don’t pay attention to the negative, because I’ve seen this play out so many times. How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?” she asks.

“Madonna’s done it. Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance, that's what you're looking for; you're wanting to make history. Me and Robin, the whole time, said, ‘You know we’re going to make history right now.’”

As for her critics, she says that people are trying to find deeper meaning to her booty shaking that just isn’t there.

What's amazing is I think now, we're three days later and people are still talking about it,” she laughs. “They're overthinking it.”

She reveals that her whole process for the evening was as relaxed as they come, because, if you haven’t gotten the message by now, she’s just being Miley and she can’t stop (woah). “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. I didn’t even think about it, ‘cause that’s just me.”
