Oscar-nominated actor Terrence Howard threw his then-estranged wife Michelle Ghent to the ground and threatened suicide just weeks before their divorce in May, according to TMZ.
Newly released court documents detail Terrence’s rage over Michelle’s accusations he was cheating after she found the phone numbers for six women in his bag while staying at a Toronto hotel, says TMZ. Michelle reportedly called the women while Terrence was in the room.
Michelle claims her then-husband threw her computer out a window and “slammed her down” to the ground all before grabbing an X-Acto knife, which he put against his wrists.
Michelle’s filing claims Terrence also pretended to hang himself with a belt and told her, “I’m just thinking if I should kill you first before you killing me,” while staying at the Toronto hotel.
Two days later, Michelle claims Terrence had threatened suicide, texting her messages including one saying that he wished he "wasn't such a coward and that I had the courage to finish what should have been accomplished in the abortion clinic 44 years ago." He also offered to pay his then-wife more than $25,000 to cover the damage to her computer and said he would seek outpatient care for “his addictions and emotional instability.”
The couple’s divorce was finalized in May, just two weeks after the alleged incident, says TMZ.
This isn’t the first report of violence in the couple’s relationship. Terrence reportedly beat Michelle during a family vacation to Costa Rica in July during a brief reunion, leading to Michelle filing a restraining order.
