Breaking news: More breaking news is coming! The Newsroom’s Emmy-nominated star Jeff Daniels tweeted September 3, “It's official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3.”
HBO hasn’t officially released a renewal notice, but sources confirmed to Deadline that it’s happening. Season 2 is wrapping up its prescient Genoa story, involving sarin gas, with two more episodes to air before the September 15 season finale.
Back in July, HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo talked about the possibility of a Season 3. “The odds are excellent – we’re enormously happy with the show,” he said, via Deadline. “Conversations with Aaron Sorkin are all about scheduling as he he has other commitments. If we can figure the scheduling, I will be shocked if you would not be hearing about a renewal soon. The numbers this season are surpassing last season.”
The Newsroom received three 2013 Emmy nominations: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Jeff Daniels, Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Jane Fonda, and Outstanding Main Title Design. We'll find out if it won anything when the awards show airs September 22 on CBS.
Are you excited for more scoop from The Newsroom? The series airs Sunday nights at 10 p.m. on HBO.
