There are plenty of relationships on Parenthood to discuss, but none were as polarizing Sarah and Hank’s last season. Though he departed for Minnesota in Season 4, portrayer Ray Romano is confirmed to return in Season 5 — but not necessarily to be with her!

According to EP Jason Katims, Hank’s return isn’t about “him being in a relationship with Sarah or trying to be.” He tells TVLine that they’ll explore it, but it’s “not how we launch the story.” That makes sense considering he notes she’ll be working on herself instead of any relationships, whether with Mark, Hank, Seth, or someone new, but we’re still a little puzzled.

A new spoiler from TV Guide kind of clears things up. Apparently Hank will bond with Max and encourage his “growing interest in photography.” While we doubt he’d move back just for that, it’s at least a reason why he and Sarah don’t immediately jump back into things. However, there is drama ahead for him by proxy — the site adds that “Max gets a bit overzealous taking pictures for the school yearbook, which may land him, and subsequently Adam and Kristina, in hot water with the principal.” Uh-oh!

Do you want Hank and Sarah to be together, or are you done with them for good? Sound off below!
