Charlie Hunnam — aka the new Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie series — is speaking out on how and why he got the role.
"As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us," Charlie told The Hollywood Reporter at the Season 6 premiere of his TV show Sons of Anarchy. "It felt kind of exciting and fun and weird and compelling, and so that was it."

After talks with director Sam Taylor-Johnson, Charlie was even more excited and intrigued, but they had to push back the shooting schedule so he would have more time to prepare.
He's also not worried about the steamy sex scenes, since he did it before on his first job, Queer as Folk, when he had "incredibly explicit sexual scenes with a man." As Charlie put it, "I mean I'm 16 and 17 years wiser now. So if I could do it when I was 18 with a guy, I can certainly do it at 33 with a lady." Good point.
He also feels Fifty Shades will just make him closer to his girlfriend Morgana McNelis, who seems all-in for the franchise.
Charlie also recently got an endorsement from his old SOA co-star Taryn Manning. "Do you realize every single woman that is my friend is, like, 'Tell me everything about Charlie.' All the time," Taryn told E! News. "I don't understand the backlash [to the decision to cast him as Christian]. I don't agree. I think he is perfect for that part!"
We'll see! Fifty Shades of Grey premieres August 1, 2014. Are you ready to watch that tangible chemistry in action?
