The actress-turned-vocalist has badly injured her vocal chords and is on strict orders from her doctor to not speak or sing at all for at least the next four days, according to TMZ. Time to bust out the paper and pencil.
The injury occurred during her performance at Club Nokia in L.A. on September 9, when she strained her vocal chords while singing. The next day, she appeared on a radio show and was unable to sing, so she immediately sought medical attention. And then she got the bad news.
This is pretty bad timing for the budding singing sensation, as her debut album has just been released, so Ariana was in the throes of promoting it. She had been scheduled to perform on The Queen Latifah Show and The Arsenio Hall Show this week but had to cancel.
Ariana got her start as an actress on the hit Nickelodeon show Victorious and now reprises her role as Cat on Sam & Cat. Her debut pop single, "The Way," has been a breakout hit this year, with Ariana's voice rightfully drawing comparisons to the one-and-only Mariah Carey for the way they can each hit those high notes. And we don't compare many people to Mariah, believe you that.
Evidently, Ariana is going to have to lay off the high notes for a few days. And the low and medium notes as well.
UPDATE: Ariana later made an Instagram video to thank her fans for their well wishes. "I'm actually completely fine. My voice is healthy, I'm talking right now. I just lost my voice at the party for my album but I'm completely fine. Thank you!"
