Katherine Heigl’s career may have slowed significantly since her days as a big box office draw and show staple on Grey's Anatomy, but that doesn’t mean that the folks who worked with her when she was on her way to stardom have forgotten her — or just how difficult she was.
An insider revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Katherine’s reputation got so bad that it started to precede her on the set of her films, causing many film industry insiders to pass on signing her to big projects.
“There were movie-star demands -- big rooms, the mother there, all the stuff . . . It was just a sense of entitlement,” claims a source close to the star.
While plenty of stars have momagers, Katherine’s mom, Nancy, is reportedly such a nightmare that she leaves industry vets shaking in their boots.
“It's about the mouth. 'F—k you. You are a f—king liar.' … Whatever you'd say, you were an idiot. The call would be, 'This is the worst craft service we've ever had! There's nothing to eat! This is the worst wardrobe!' You knew that every day, you were going to get slammed. The frustrating part is [Heigl] is incredibly talented and smart."
The combination of factors has made Katherine difficult to employ in recent years, causing casting directors to pass her by time and time again. When a pilot came that needed a female lead came through the pipeline recently, a team unanimously passed on Katherine, thanks to her mean girl reputation.
“On many levels, she would have been perfect for the role, but all of us said, 'She's not worth it.'”
