We couldn’t imagine Aisha Tyler — co-host of The Talk and host of Whose Line Is It Anyway? — being anything but her adorable, peppy self, but one recent topic on her talk show brought her to tears: her struggles with infertility.
Us Weekly reports that Aisha spoke openly about her difficult years of trying to get pregnant naturally with her attorney husband, Jeff Tietjens, before deciding to turn to in vitro fertilization (IVF). After undergoing many procedures and spending a ton of money, Aisha said her doctor told her, "'Look, based on what we're seeing here, I just don't think this is going to happen for you.'"
The 42-year-old comedienne revealed that it’s been two years since she and Jeff have stopped trying, but says that for her, it’s still a fresh wound.
In one of the most emotional moments we’re sure The Talk has ever aired, Aisha explained the feelings she experienced after making such a heartbreaking decision: "I married my husband because I loved him and I don't feel like there's anybody missing from our marriage, but when you think about this person that you love, and you think about what a wonderful thing it would be to bring another person like that into this world, I think that's the hardest part about all of it."
We’re reminded of Aisha’s new book, Self-Inflicted Wounds, which is a collection of essays penned by the actress herself that describe numerous mistakes and heartaches she’s gone through. But in the wake of each of those experiences, the takeaway message is that they’ve all made her into the person she is today — a strong, independent woman with plenty of stories to tell.
The book’s description on Harper Collins says, “Through it all, Aisha's triumphs haven't come in spite of the failures, but because of them. Because with every failure comes a lesson learned, a strength revealed, a fear overcome, or an adventure braved.” Not that we’re saying her most recent experience was a failure, but it was another lesson on the long road of life. This wound will certainly take time to heal, but when it does, we’re sure whatever comes next in her life will have been worth the struggle.
