Backstreet Boy Nick Carter is back, and better than ever. The engaged former boybander has recently been offered a VH1 reality show, and is putting the finishing touches on his tell-all memoir, entitled Facing the Music and Living to Talk About It.

Whoa, that’s a heavy start, and InTouch has the preview of the book, due out on September 24, which confirms that it’s not going to be a pop-candy tome. In it, Nick reveals the details of his decade-long battle with drugs and alcohol, which endured from 1998 until 2008.

“During the height of my problems, I did Ecstasy, cocaine and drank a large bottle of vodka a night,” Nick explains, which he says affected his brain. “I regret taking Ecstasy. The amount I did caused changes to my brain that are responsible for my bouts of depression now.”

But while the book is mainly centered on his life, he doesn’t shy away from pointing out that he didn’t do it all alone. In fact, his 2003-2004 girlfriend Paris Hilton is cited as a big reason he got so caught up in the fast-living lifestyle. “Paris was the worst person in the world for me to hook up with. [She] fed my worst impulses as far as partying.” Yikes, guess she’s not the great life guru we always imagined her to be.

Nick isn’t the only one in his family who has struggled with substance abuse, though. His sister Leslie died suddenly in February 2012 of a prescription drug overdose, and Nick didn’t attend the funeral because of “complicated” family issues.

Between this memoir and his forthcoming reality show, we have a feeling we’re going to know a lot more about Nick than we ever imagined, because he wants it that way.
