Update (November 20, 2013): Jake T. Austin was the driver of the car involved in yesterday’s hit-and-run, according to a new TMZ report.
Sources “intimately familiar with the situation” tell TMZ that Jake and a friend left the scene of the accident by taking an Uber, a personal car service, home, which means that if drinking was involved, Jake can't be prosecuted since the cops didn't catch him in the act. Jake reportedly denies he was drinking.
Thanks to his lawyer Jake may also not face charges for the hit-and-run since his lawyer maintains Jake had to leave the scene quickly to seek medical help (the former Disney star went to the ER and received stitches to his mouth following the incident). The owners of the damaged cars will also be fully compensated, according to TMZ.
Update (3:19 p.m. November 19, 2013): TMZ reports Jake T. Austin was arrested for a DUI just last month. He was pulled over October 8 for driving at night without headlights — in the same car involved in this morning’s incident.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that officers could smell alcohol as they approached the vehicle in October. Jake allegedly did poorly on a field sobriety test and was arrested. He was charged with DUI and has a court date set for tomorrow (November 20).
There’s still no word if Jake was involved in the November 19 hit-and-run. Details to come as we get them.
Original story: There’s some unfortunate news today involving former Disney star Jake T. Austin.
The 18-year-old actor, who starred as Max Russo on Selena Gomez hit Wizards of Waverly Place, was potentially involved in a four-car hit-and-run incident earlier this morning (November 19), according to TMZ.
The site reports at around 3 a.m. this morning, a 2010 Audi with New York plates hit three cars parked on a street in Sherman Oaks, California. The cars were extensively damaged, says TMZ. After hitting the cars, witnesses tell TMZ someone in the car “threw a bottle of Ciroc at a nearby property.”
The Audi in question is reportedly registered to Austin (whose real name is Jake Austin Szymanski). However, it’s not clear if Austin was driving the car when the accident occurred. The situation is currently under investigation with no arrests made as of publishing.
Since Wizards of Waverly Place ended back in 2012, Jake has appeared on a number of other Mickey Mouse ventures including ABC Family’s new series, The Fosters, where he plays troubled teen Jesus Foster.
He’s also starred in episodes of Drop Dead Diva and Law & Order: SVU. Let’s just hope Jake won’t actually see the inside of a courtroom any time soon.
