Dan Spitz, who played lead guitar in the heavy metal band Anthrax for many years, has been arrested for allegedly choking his wife on the morning of December 25, according to TMZ.
Dan's wife's name is Candi, and her mother reportedly called police in the wee hours of the morning to the couple's home in Lake Worth, Florida, after Dan and Candi got into a drunken fight. Candi's mother reportedly told police that Dan was choking Candi, with police seeing bruises around Candi's neck.
Dan claims he was acting in self defense, and Candi said the following day that she would not be pressing charges as the incident was a misunderstanding.
Dan and Candi welcomed twins in 2007. He also has two daughters from a previous marriage.
He was the lead guitarist for Anthrax from 1983 to 1995, rejoining the band again from 2005 to 2007. He has also performed in the group Red Lamb with Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine.
As for Anthrax, the band — which has been nominated for three Grammys — released an EP album earlier this year. The group is reportedly working on a new full-length album to be released sometime in 2014.
