Elizabeth Banks career is hitting a high note! Fresh off her latest scene-stealing turn in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the 39-year-old actress will direct Pitch Perfect 2 — the sequel to 2012's sleeper hit musical comedy — as The Hollywood Reporter reveals.
You may remember that Elizabeth appeared in the first movie as a commentator for the national a cappella championships — but she was also instrumental behind the scenes. It was her idea to adapt Mickey Rapkin's nonfiction book Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory to the silver screen, and she acted as producer on the film.
Now, she'll act in, produce, and direct the follow-up, currently slated for 2015. (Hey, no pressure!)
"Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success," Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley explained. "She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on, and we're thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2."
Kay Cannon, a writer for 30 Rock and New Girl, penned the script for the original film and will do so for the sequel, as well.
THR also reports that Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are "likely" to reprise their starring roles — and we can't imagine they'd pass up such a sweet gig, especially with Elizabeth at the helm!
