ABC’s Scandal and two of its stars — Kerry Washington and Joe Morton — took home wins at the 45th annual NAACP Image Awards on Saturday, February 23. The show was hosted by Anthony Anderson and it aired live on TV One.

On the film side, 12 Years a Slave won top honors, but Forest Whitaker and The Butler were also given with major awards. David Oyelowo, who won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for The Butler, told The Hollywood Reporter, "To have films like The Butler, 12 Years a Slave, Fruitvale Station and Mandela — all that have black protagonists with no white savior character holding their hand through the movie is a huge stride forward.”

On the music side, John Legend won Outstanding Male Artist, and Beyoncé was named Outstanding Female Artist. Kevin Hart won the title Entertainer of the Year.
