While most child stars from Nickelodeon and Disney reinvent their pop careers by sampling the music world's newest trends, Drake Bell is going in the opposite direction.

The Drake & Josh alum's upcoming third studio album, Ready, Steady, Go! sees him taking a rockabilly turn — channelling the 1950s rock style popularized by Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Check out his new sound on his track "I Won't Stand in Your Way" over at People.

Drake tells the magazine that this is the kind of music he has always wanted to do — more than the pop music he's performed on previous albums Telegraph and It's Only Time. And the 27-year-old says that his fans are digging the new tunes.

"I've always worn my influences on my sleeve," he tells People. "That has translated to my fans, so this isn't going to be out of left field for them. It is great, fun rock-and-roll music, and I'm seeing them enjoy it — and new fans as well!"

Drake has had a roller coaster of a year these past 12 months — between campaigning for Justin Bieber's deportation to being sucked into the craziness around his former co-star Amanda Bynes to filing for bankruptcy two months ago.

Let's hope he earns a fair chunk of change when Ready, Steady, Go is released on April 22!
