Fans of the ‘80s, rejoice — the Jem and the Holograms movie finally has a cast!
The classic ‘80s cartoon series, which has maintained a steady fanbase among both those old enough to remember the original show and those young enough to know how to torrent it, is finally coming to the big screen and it looks like it’s about to create a new crop of Hollywood It Girls nearly overnight.
People reports that the lead role of Jerrica Benton, who morphs into pink haired rock star Jem with the help from her hologram projecting earrings, will be played by Aubrey Peeples, best known for her work as country crooner Layla Grant on Nashville.
Jem’s bandmates, the aptly named Holograms, will be played by a group of fresh faces, including actresses Hayley Kiyoko, Aurora Perrineau, and Stefanie Scott.
While the movie’s stars may not be household names just yet, that doesn’t seem to have diminished the enthusiasm of the series’ fans, who took to social media to express their excitement about the forthcoming film.
It’s not just teens who are going wild about the news, either; as WWE star Xavier Woods told followers, “I said this a while ago so just to reiterate, I'm one of the most excited ppl on the planet since #JemTheMovie is becoming a reality.”
What do you think of the Jem casting choices? Will you see the movie when it hits theaters?
