This is not exactly something to shout "woo! woo! woo!" about. At a time of serious transition in the late-night talk show scene, The Arsenio Hall Show has been canceled after only a single season.
Arsenio's rebooted talk show premiered in September 2013 to strong ratings, and the show was actually renewed for a second season in February 2014. However, his ratings took a dive within the first few months — particularly once Jimmy Fallon joined the fray — and so CBS Television Distribution has changed its mind on the second season.
“Unfortunately, The Arsenio Hall Show will not return for a second season; while there are many loyal fans of the show, the series did not grow its audience enough to continue," the company said in a statement Friday. "Arsenio is a tremendous talent, and we’d like to thank him for all the hard work and energy he put into the show."
Arsenio also released a statement, saying that he recognized that returning to the talk-show game would be tough. "I’m gratified for the year we’ve had and proud of the show we created," he says. "I’d like to thank everyone on my staff for rallying around me and striving to make the best show possible every night."
His first talk show ran from January 1989 to May 1994. Arsenio won Celebrity Apprentice 5 and has also appeared as an actor in films like Coming to America.
