Cementing herself as a voice against sexual assault, Dallas star AnnaLynne McCord is taking her recent revelation to college campuses around the nation. According to People, the 26-year-old actress will start a speaking tour this fall — adding yet another voice in the constant conversation about the growing problem of sexual assault on college campuses.
“I was in this state of denial and wasn’t able to speak out until now,” the former Nip/Tuck and 90210 star told the news outlet at the premiere of her short film, I Choose. “Eight years later, I’m finally at a place where I can talk about this and expose it, and hopefully show other survivors the support they need, because when we unite, we heal.”
AnnaLynne recently opened up to Cosmopolitan about being raped by a friend when she was 18 years old, just after moving to Los Angeles to pursue acting, having escaped a physically abusive upbringing. Basically our hearts broke when we read what had happened — and ever since the gorgeous gal’s fans have been reaching out and offering words of encouragement.
“The support has been amazing,” she continued. “You think in your head that the opposite is going to happen. You think that you’ll be ashamed and there will be even more degradation, humiliation. And the opposite has been apparent. But what’s even more important than that to me has been the outreach from survivors who are telling me their stories.”
Even more amazing, AnnaLynne promises that she will “personally respond” to every single email she gets from fellow sexual assault survivors and she revealed that she’s shopping around a pilot based on her story. The pilot features a vigilante who goes after rapists, so it’s about a real-life superhero.
We’ve got one thing to say to you, AnnaLynne: You are amazing!
