Sean Bean, who portrayed Ned Stark on Game of Thrones’ first season, recently took part in a Reddit AMA where he shared a lot of interesting facts about his former show. Perhaps the most interesting was what happened to Ned’s severed head.

Someone asked Sean if it was strange to see his head lying around, but he didn’t seem to put out by it. “It was a bit strange, yeah, a bit creepy,” Sean says. “We just kicked it around like a football!”

Also, rumors of Sean’s death have been greatly exaggerated. While he’s well-known for his death in high profile projects like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and Goldeneye, Sean says his characters don’t die as often as we all like to think. Someone pointed out that out of 100 roles on IMDb, Sean only died in 25 of them, a number which impressed Sean. “That's only a 25% deathrate then, innit? That's alright!” Sean said.

Someone also asked Sean if he knew Ned Stark’s fate going in to the role, or if he found out later to his own chagrin. Sean replied, “No, I did know I was going to get it, at the end. And I signed on anyway, because it was such a good part.”

Don’t worry, Sean, Ned Stark will live on forever in the form of DVD covers.
