Celebrity moms have a habit of making new motherhood look easy. Maybe it’s the squadrons of makeup artists, personal trainers, and hair stylists, but rarely is a famous mama spotted out with the puffy eyes, recuperating body, and messy tresses of your typical new mom. So thank goodness for Daphne Oz, who doled out some real talk in her latest chat with The Bump (via People).
“It is so much harder than I imagined!” the 28-year-old TV host says of parenting. “You just care so much, and want everything to be perfect. Even though you know it never can be, you keep trying your best. It’s never enough!”
Daphne, the daughter of fellow TV personality Dr. Oz, gave birth to a daughter, Philomena Bijou, in late February. We haven’t heard much from The Chew hostess since as she and husband John Jovanovic puzzle out this parenting thing. So far, well, it’s a work in progress, says Daphne.
“I think the biggest change and challenge for me was coming to terms with the fact that being a good mom is not something you can read up on or learn from a distance,” she explains. “You have to jump in headfirst and get your hands dirty.”
With that comes accepting the fact that you’ve been changed forever, says Daphne. “I’m a new, hopefully better, version of me now, with lots more to care and think about, and a lot more personal knowledge too.”
And heck, if things ever get really rough we’re sure advice guru Grandpa Oz would be happy to help!
