So long, Wisteria lane. ABC has just announced that the 8th season of Desperate Housewives is its last. The long-running favorite will be drawing to a close next spring — and shortly after the announcement, creator Marc Cherry was on hand at the 2011 TCA Press Tour to discuss the decision to call it quits.
Cherry said he was always wary of being one of those shows that overstay their welcomes: “I wanted to end it in the classiest way possible.” And expect this final season to return to the show’s origins. “We’re going back to the roots of Mary Alice,” Cherry teased.
As for the cast? Cherry can’t wait to work with them again. When he tearfully called star Eva Longoria to tell her the news, he was already coming up with spin-off material. “I'm just gonna put you in a van and have you solve mysteries!" he joked.
Gabrielle Solis at the wheel of her very own Mystery Machine? Um, we would so watch that, Marc.
