If you’ve listened to Adele’s 21 on repeat with tears running down your face (no judgment here), you might feel like you know the 23-year-old singer. After all, the album is full of achingly honest breakup songs with revealing lyrics. As it turns out, Adele is just as open in interviews.
Vogue recently spoke with the British balladeer, and she had no trouble providing insight into her life and future plans — which she says don’t include any more breakup records. Maybe she’s found “The One” in boyfriend Simon Konecki?
Check out some of our favorite quotes below, and read the rest of the interview at Vogue.
How she feels about fame: “I hate the red carpet. I don’t feel insecure, I just feel like, Oh, I don’t want to do this. I literally get a stomach cramp.”
On the guy who was the inspiration for “Someone Like You”: “He was great. But it was never going to work […] [I]t only seems right that the person who so far has had the biggest impact on me — has now changed my life for f****g ever with this album — deserves a little credit.”
On her moodiness: “I am not bipolar, but I go from ‘Oh, my God, I love you’ to ‘Get the f**k out of my house!’ really quickly.”
On why guys should still date her: “It’s not like, ‘You f**k me over and I’m going to write a record and make you the most hated man in the world.’ I am never writing a breakup record again, by the way.”
Her future plans: “I am f*****g off for four or five years. If I am constantly working, my relationships fail. So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy. And then I don’t know what I’ll do. Get married. Have some kids. Plant a nice vegetable patch.”
On her father, who sold a story about her to a newspaper: “If I ever see him I will spit in his face.”
Where she gets inspiration from: “‘Chasing Pavements’ came from me running down Oxford Street. I had punched my ex in a pub and then ran away from security.”
On growing up in a rough neighborhood: “I always call myself ‘Delly from the Block.’”
Will she ever go into acting? “No, I have absolutely no intention of going into acting or making perfumes. I am a singer.”
When can we expect another record? “I won’t come out with new music until it’s better than 21. I’m not expecting to sell as many records, but I don’t want to release s**t. Also, I have nothing to write about! I’d be lying.”
