Just when Marnie had finally gotten Charlie back, he’s gone for good. Allison Williams’ TV love, Christopher Abbott, who played jerked-around nice guy Charlie on the HBO hit Girls, announced his departure from the series just last month, and now the actress is opening up about being single on screen.

Allison admitted to TV Line that Chris’ sudden departure from the series had “a huge effect on our show and [on the character of] Marnie specifically.” Chris announced he was leaving the series in early April, with many media outlets speculating that creative differences with creator and star Lena Dunham had sent him running.

A source close to the actor told Us Weekly, “He's sure the show will continue to do well, but as far as his character, he wasn't behind where it was going to end up... Chris was reluctant to do the show from the get go... But he's at a point now where he has too many great film parts being offered to him to turn them down for something he's not 100 percent satisfied with.”

Despite her dismay over her castmate’s departure, Allison says she’s confident that the show will bounce back seamlessly. "It's unfortunate,” she said of Chris’ decision to leave the show.

"[But] the minute I heard the news, there wasn't a single doubt in my mind that [they] would come up with great stuff for Marnie to be doing, and what we've done so far and what we're continuing to do is so excellent."
