Is late-night comedy classic Saturday Night Live about to be the victim of a huge cast shakeup?
Us Weekly reports that two SNL insiders have said that Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, and Jason Sudeikis are all planning to move on at the end of the season. A friend of Kristin's also told the mag that the comedienne "was talking about leaving a while ago," noting that "with her movie success" — Kristin wrote and starred in 2011 smash hit Bridesmaids — "it's no surprise."
Kristin and Andy's rep told Us that the sources have it wrong, stating that, "No decisions are made until the season is over."
Still, it wouldn't shock us if these three stars moved on to bigger things. SNL has long operated as a career launching pad — from Mike Myers to Tina Fey, it's not hard to find big-time Hollywood comedy stars who got a jumpstart on SNL — and Kristen, Andy, and Jason have all started making a name for themselves in movies.
If this rumor is true, it poses a bit of a problem for SNL, which many fans think is already on shaky ground. Kristen, Andy, and Jason are three of the show's most recognizable cast members, and the loss of their combined comedic talents would be a major blow to a show that always seems to be struggling to find its footing.
