As if the gods of all that is delightful and quirky heard our prayers, Zooey and JGL teased us last winter with a New Year’s Eve duet. Watch as they strum, flirt, and harmonize their way through a rendition of “What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?”
Seriously, they’d be perfect for one another. Zooey, who split from her husband of two years in November 2011, tweets about the most random things, and she co-founded the artsy website HelloGiggles. Joseph started a collaborative production website, hitRECord, in 2005, and last December he edited and published a collection of tiny stories, all culled from submissions to the site. It doesn’t get more adorkable than that.
Oh wait, but it does: They both sing, sometimes ironically.
Now that we’ve already gotten lightyears ahead of ourselves (and reality), here’s the bad news: According to Joe, he and Zooey are just friends. “We’ve been friends for 10 years,” he told Playboy Magazine in August 2012. “She’s turned me on to so many movies and so much good music. It’s fun just to have conversations, watch movies with her.”
Even if you stopped reading after “She’s turned me on,” here’s the kicker: Zooey’s seeing someone else — Dear John and Ten Year screenwriter Jamie Linden.
And as icing on a not-so-tasty cake, she’s pretty sure Joe is too busy for a New Girl cameo.
Nonetheless, we’re holding out hope that these two crazy kids will come to their senses, tie the knot, and produce the most talented hipster babies in Hollywood. Dare to dream, friends.
