Modern Family's Ariel Winter, 15, told Teen Vogue she's happy now that she has more of a normal family life. She has a curfew for the first time. She has family dinners. She goes out with friends instead of just working.
The changes are due to living with her older sister, Shanelle Workman, who is currently her guardian. Ariel said she wasn't really allowed to see her sister growing up, but now big sis is the kind of person she aspires to be. She also opened up about her mother, who was accused of physical and emotional abuse — including insulting Ariel's weight and depriving her of food.
"I had body insecurities when I was younger. I still do," Ariel told the magazine. "Every girl has insecurities — mine were heightened at the time because my mother wasn't supportive. Now, my sister is always making sure to tell me that I look beautiful." Ariel likes to spread that message of acceptance to her friends and fans. "They'll say, 'This person's prettier,' and I'll respond, 'You are amazing, incredible, and perfect the way you are.' It's about learning to love yourself."
It's so good to hear that she's on a positive path! Props to her sister for apparently setting a great example.
