American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis has been tweeting up a storm about Fifty Shades of Grey. He's made no secret of wanting to adapt the best-selling series for film and he's shared a bunch of casting ideas over the last few days.

Get a load of this roundup:

"I think David Cronenberg is a great idea for directing Fifty Shades of Grey and we worked together on American Psycho in its initial phase," Bret tweeted (via Digital Spy). "Cronenberg and Alexander Skarsgård is a no-brainer. I've seen Alexander naked so many times at the gym that we both attend: perfect casting. For Fifty Shades of Grey: David Cronenberg, Alexander Skarsgård, Bret Easton Ellis and who as... Anastasia??? I would love it if we lived in a world where Lena Dunham could be Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey but I don't think we do. I think she's hot. [...] Thinking more conventionally for Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey: Scarlett Johansson or Kristen Stewart. Alex Pettyfer as Christian: too young? [...] Emmy Rossum as Ana in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie? Thoughts? [...] In a perfect world it would be Ryan Gosling as Christian Grey...David Cronenberg directing. Bret Easton Ellis writing. Ryan Gosling acting. Fifty Shades of Grey team... Shades of Grey."

Done!

Well, not done, actually. We're fine with a lot of those ideas, but on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week Bret felt the passion of Ian Somerhalder fans and added his thoughts on The Vampire Diaries hottie as Christian:

“Rereading Fifty Shades of Grey: it's hard for me to think of Ian Somerhalder as Christian G. because I've known him personally for so long. [...] Okay, okay: I'm seeing Christian G. in Fifty Shades of Grey as Ian Somerhalder but Paul Denton in The Rules of Attraction keeps haunting me. [...] I know Ian Somerhalder and how kinky he can be and yes, he's probably Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, and he will go all-out for it. [...] I'll call Ian tomorrow for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’...I get it, I get it...I'll contact Ian today and our teams will approach the studio."

So even though it sounds like he'd be more into Ryan Gosling or Alex Pettyfer for Christian, the fans have spoken (and pushed hard!) for Mr. Smolderhotter. Not that Bret has much casting power at this point since he's not even officially involved. Still, it can't hurt to have such a high-profile writer pitching your case to the bigwigs.

Who are you rooting for to play Christian and Ana?
