Bill Rancic and his wife Giuliana are reality TV’s most loved couple for one reason: whether times are good or bad, they’re willing to put it all out there. They didn’t shy away from sharing their struggles with fertility or with Giuliana’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2011. So who wasn’t thrilled for them when the couple announced in April that they were finally expecting their first child via gestational surrogate?
Now, Bill has some more news to share: he’s the new spokesperson for Rogaine! Having battled thinning hair for years, Bill says Rogaine helped him regain his follicles…and his self-confidence. He sat down with Wetpaint Entertainment to talk about the new venture as well as update us on the latest baby news!
Wetpaint Entertainment: You’re partnering with Rogaine. How did that come about?
You know, Rogaine and I started talking a while ago about a partnership because I was a customer. When I met with them, we pulled up the before and after photos of me on the Internet and the difference was truly remarkable. I look at some of these pictures and I realized how much Rogaine had helped after I started using it on a regular basis. So it was just a very natural fit.
How long have you been using it?
I had been using it off and on for the past few years, but consistently for about the past two years. I used it twice and day and really started taking it seriously.
What was happening to you?
Thinning, my hair was thinning. One day I looked at a picture of myself and I was like, “Whoa! That’s me?” It was a wake-up call.
There are a lot of systems out there. Why Rogaine?
It was just the easiest. It’s like brushing your teeth – it takes very little time at all. You don’t need a prescription, you just buy it over the counter and throw it in your shaving kit and go. It’s 30 seconds in the morning and 30 seconds at night.
Not a lot of men in Hollywood would be so open about discussing hair loss or thinning hair. What made you decide to come forward?
I look at it like this: when a guy starts losing his hair, it affects so many aspects of his life. It affects his confidence level at work. It affects his dating life. It affects his overall image of himself.
And a staggering number of men deal with it – one in four. So you’re talking about 25 percent of all men out there dealing with some form of hair loss. When you can fix a problem and face it head-on, that’s the way to do it. For most problems, they don’t go away. So for me, it was like, I faced the problem and I dealt with it. And now, I’m totally comfortable talking about it. It doesn’t have to be embarrassing.
Just to shift the focus a little bit, you and Giuliana are expecting your first baby. So this is your first Father’s Day coming up…
Well, pre-Father’s Day. My wife was actually in London for Mother’s Day so we’re going to have a celebratory dinner now in honor of pre-Mother’s Day.
What are you looking forward to most about being a father?
A lot. We had a long road to get to this point. I’m looking forward to everything. Holding the baby in our arms. You know I was jogging in the park today and I saw all these guys jogging with their baby strollers and I thought, that looks cool. That’s going to be me.
Will you find out the sex ahead of time?
We have. We know it.
Oh my god, my wife would kill me! But we’re happy. Very happy. But really, all we wanted was a healthy baby.
Are you starting to think about names?
We are. But I do have a theory on names. It has to fit the baby. I kind of think it has to be a game day decision. I’m not a fan of naming a child after you. Like, Giuliana Jr. She would like that, though!
You guys have been very open about how much travel goes on in your relationship because of her work, which is in LA, and yours, which is in Chicago and also on the road. How will that change once the baby comes?
That’s a great question. We’re probably going to slow down a lot.
But the stars were aligned because we just got the offer to do a show for NBC called Ready For Love. It’s going to keep us grounded all summer long. So we’ll be able to shift gears before the baby arrives because we’ll be in Los Angeles.
So that’s where the new home base will be?
Well, Chicago and LA. We’re never going to cut our ties with Chicago. That’s home and that’s where the kids will go to school.
How are nursery plans coming?
Oh, that’s Giuliana. That’s all her. I just gave her a budget and I’m hoping we can keep it within the guidelines!
Thanks so much for chatting with us. Congratulations.
Thank you so much.
