Update: The death toll of the bombings is now 3.

Terrible news from the Boston Marathon today as two explosions have killed several people and left many more severely injured.

At least two people are reported dead after two explosions at 2:50 p.m. ET on April 15 near Copley Square in Boston, right next to the finish line of the marathon, according to the NY Post.

Many other people are being treated for severe injuries at Massachusetts General Hospital, including 10 people with amputated limbs.

Sources say the first explosion happened in the lobby of the Fairmont Hotel.

"There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today's Boston Marathon," according to the Boston Marathon's official Facebook page. "We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened."

One celebrity who narrowly avoided the explosion was New Kids on the Block member and Boston native Joey McIntyre, who had completed the marathon just before the blasts.

The Boston Marathon is one of the nation's oldest sporting events, having began in 1897. It is always held on Patriots' Day, which is the third Monday in April.

Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this tragic time.
